Abstract: The atmospheric horizontal wind is an essential parameter for studying atmospheric dynamic characteristics, processes, and dynamic coupling between the upper and lower atmosphere. MST (Mesosphere Stratosphere and Troposphere) radar plays a unique role in atmospheric wind field detection and can obtain horizontal wind profiles with high temporal and spatial resolution. The Beijing MST radar, which was built and operated by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences under the support of the Chinese Meridian Project. It is located at Xianghe Observatory of Whole Atmosphere, Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (39.75°N, 116.96°E). This dataset contains the atmospheric horizontal wind speed and direction observed by the Beijing MST radar in 2012 operated on middle mode. The detection height range cover 3 to 25 km, the vertical resolution is 600 m, and the sampling interval is 30 minutes. After removing the abnormal points, the horizontal wind profile is in good agreement with the nearest Beijing radiosonde data. This dataset can play an important role in research and application fields such as meteorology, space environment, and aerospace support.
