Abstract: Altay Mountains, located in northernmost Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of central Asia, is a glacial area of the highest latitude in China. Glaciers in the Altay Mountains are subcontinental type, which have experienced dramatic recession under the influence of global warming. Based on the CGI-1, CGI-2, Landsat OLI images and SRTM DEM (V4.1), glaciers centerlines in different periods were extracted and information of glacier length was obtained. The dataset contains two parts: 1) glacier inventory vector files in 2016 based on Landsat remote sensing images and SRTM DEM; 2) glacier length vector files in 1959, 2006 and 2016 obtained through automatic extraction of glacier centerlines. This dataset reflects the glacier changes in the Altay Mountains from 1959 to 2016 and can be used as basic data for studies of regional glacier changes, climate changes, among others.
