Abstract & Keywords
Abstract: Sea surface meteorological observation data and statistical products are the basis and important reference for sea surface meteorological forecast, marine climate background, scientific research and engineering construction. At present, the data used in sea surface meteorological statistical products are mostly those before 2010, and most of them are average products, which need to be supplemented and enriched. In recent years, the exponential growth of sea surface meteorological observation data has provided data guarantee for the production of sea surface meteorological statistical products. Therefore, based on the characteristics of sea surface meteorological elements in Northwest Pacific Ocean, by extracting the main sea surface meteorological elements, we carried out quality control and statistical analysis of the International Comprehensive Ocean-Atmosphere Data Set (ICOADS) original data, and the sea surface meteorological observation data, and compiled the sea surface meteorological element statistical product data. Compared with similar products in the past, the statistical products of sea surface meteorological elements have more practical statistical products, such as low base height, maximum wind speed, average maximum wind speed, the number of windy days above strong breeze, the number of windy days above moderate gale, and the number of windy days above fresh gale.

Dataset compositionThis data set consists of two parts: (1) The sea surface meteorological observation data of Northwest Pacific after quality control are in text format, composed of 456 files “YYYY.MM.DAT” (YYYY value range: from 1980 to 2017, MM value range: from January to December); covering 12 elements: sea surface pressure, sea surface temperature, dew point temperature, sea surface temperature, wind speed, wind direction, total cloud cover, low cloud cover, low cloud shape, low cloud base height, visibility and weather phenomenon; (2) The data of sea surface meteorological statistical products of Northwest Pacific are binary data with spatial resolution of 0.5°×0.5° and consists of 12 files named “month_ MM_ sta_ qx.DAT” (MM value range: from January to December); covering 21 elements: monthly average temperature, dew point temperature, sea surface temperature, air pressure, wind speed, maximum wind speed, average maximum wind speed, wind probability above strong breeze, wind probability above moderate gale, wind probability above fresh gale, total cloud cover, low cloud cover, low cloud base height, average visibility, probability of visibility less than 4 km, fog probability, thunderstorm probability, precipitation probability, the number of windy days above strong breeze, the number of windy days above moderate gale, and the number of windy days above fresh gale.
